Dark Circles: Soy, Vitamin C, and more

Monday, March 22, 2010

Those annoying dark circles. What causes them? Thinning of the skin under the eyes. Dark circles can be hereditary. They can be the result of aging. Or pigmentation issues. This post will address the latter, which generally occurs in people of color.

So what can you do to combat dark circles resulting from pigmentation issues? Well one substance that does not work is Vitamin K cream. I can attest to this from personal experience, and the first article below goes into a bit more detail. What may actually help are skin-lightening treatments containing soy or Vitamin C. I personally use a night cream containing an ester of retinol (Vitamin A) for skin renewal.

As in the case of any hyperpigmented area, be sure to wear sunscreen to minimize the increased production of melanin while in the sun.
